Most of you would have heard of award wining game Splinter Cell on the next-gen consoles, but who would have thought that it would make an appearance on J2ME. Although the mobile version is not 3D, the game is still amazingly enjoyable and addictive in its own rights.

Like its predecessors, you take on the role of Sam Fisher - the best field-operative of the secretive "black-ops" NSA sub-agency THIRD ECHELON. Your mission is to infiltrate a Siberian army base, neutralizing enemies without leaving a trace. The way in which you take out your enemies is totally up to you. You have a choice between blasting your way through, or sneaking around anonymously in the shadows, and strangling enemies as they come past. However, as tempting as shooting everything may seem, it is often not the best choice. Like the console version, Splinter Cell's emphasis is on stealth. Blowing up machines or shooting people can cause an alarm to be set and in the later stages this would mean game over!

Mobile Splinter Cell comes packed with 9 levels to explore. Some levels allow the use of guns, while others leaves you weaponless. However, there are other ways to take out an enemy. You could sneak up behind them and strangle them out, fall down on top of them from a higher platform, or even try to get them to shoot each other. But be warn, enemies only pass out temporarily if not taken out with the gun. Another feature is the save point system adopted by the game. This saves your progress through a level and allows you to continue from that point if you die. You are also given an unlimited number of lives. Because of this, Splinter Cell may seem a little too easy. But the game really steps up a notch when an extra difficulty level is unlocked after you complete the 9 levels. Now you have to run though the same 9 levels again, but with an added restriction - don't set off the alarms. This means no shooting machines and a lot of hiding and strangling.

The control system used in Splinter Cell is similar to that of Gameloft's other games. One button for jump, left, right, strangle/shoot, and crouch. Buttons operate differently in different situations. For example, jump generally makes you jump forward, but if you're standing underneath a ledge or a pipe, you can jump up and hang off it. If you've played Prince of Persia, you'll know how quick and simple it is to pick up. Movement animation is quite detailed and fluid and the controls are very precise. However the level graphics gets a little repetitive with not many variations.

Splinter Cell is another great game by Gameloft, it will keep you happily occupied for those times on the trains, buses, at work or even during classes . Splinter Cell is an ingenious action game where stealth is the key; it is an excellent addition to any mobile gaming library.

Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (SCPT) is all about love. The moment you see the splash screen in the game’s intro, you’ll immediately know that the developers spent a lot of time lovingly crafting the best game they’ve ever made. SCPT is the third iteration of the famed Splinter Cell franchise on the J2ME mobile phone market. Like its predecessors, it does the Splinter Cell franchise proud, by delivering excellent gameplay and unsurpassed gaming atmosphere.

If you’ve already played any of the previous Splinter Cell games, just skip this review and buy SCPT. Everything about it has elevated the platform/jump and run genre to new heights. If you’re new to the franchise, welcome to the most compelling and thrilling game you’ll download in months.

Graphically, everything you’ll see in your mobile screen is simply stunning. The characters are well drawn and animated; the backgrounds are fantastic and the lighting effects are just right for a stealth based game. The previous Splinter Cell titles were drawn too “cartoon-like” for me; in SCPT the graphics are harder, edgier and bigger. Graphically there is a big improvement from the old Splinter Cell games and SCPT, and its all for the better. The sound effects are quite good and you can immediately determine what is happening within the game based on the sound that you hear. The music is tastefully composed and fades in and out during appropriate segments within the game. The game just feels so cinematic, there are even several cut scenes scattered throughout the game in order to give life to the game’s atmosphere.

SCPT’s gameplay is based on stealth. You have to run, sneak, jump, shoot, and find your way throughout the game. At the risk of sounding redundant, this game is a sneaker’s delight. You can hide in shadows to avoid guards, shootout spotlights to preserve the darkness cloaking you, and finally bob and weave against mechanical chain guns. To help you out in your adventure, the developers provided two features: the shadow meter and the alarm meter. The former notifies you if you are safely enshrouded in darkness, while the latter warns you if you have been detected. The design of the eight levels in the game borders on sheer brilliance. The levels were designed in such a way as to provide a thinking challenge for the player and not as an exercise in frustration. The use of the land mines scattered throughout the game made me sweat for awhile but after carefully planning out my moves, I was able to get past these deadly obstacles. Every time you successfully complete a challenging segment of the game, you’ll wind up with a happy and warm feeling within.

I have the N-Gage Splinter Cell launch title and while the N-Gage game has better looking graphics, SCPT’s overall package gives it the nod as the best Splinter Cell mobile game ever. I keep finding myself being drawn back again and again to play SCPT even though I’ve already finished it twice. The game is just pure gaming goodness.

No doubt about it. This is the best J2ME game I’ve ever played. If people tell you that you can’t buy love, they’re lying because this perfect gem is all about love. If you only have enough money to purchase one mobile game for the entire year, you better grab this baby.

The Splinter Cell franchise has always been the measuring stick of top notched action-adventure gaming on the mobile phone market. The first two games have been spectacular thrill seeking romps and the latest game in the series doesn’t disappoint at all.

In Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, you’ll once again be stepping into the shoes of ubber cool NSA secret agent Sam Fisher. Like in his previous two outings, you’ll have to sneak your way through several increasingly difficult levels as you attempt to solve the latest socio-political intrigue which affects the security of the United States. While sneaking around without being detected is Sam Fisher’s specialty, there comes a time when you find that nothing is more satisfying than capping some unsuspecting bad guy. In order to appease the action hungry crowd, Gameloft has included more opportunities for you to cap some bad guys. This is probably the most action-packed Splinter Cell yet.

While you might think that based on the previous paragraph that the Splinter Cell franchise has gone down the action – platforming path, the core stealth elements that has made Splinter Cell such a great game still remains. While there is truly no penalty for applying as much gratuitous violence as you want to the enemies you’ll encounter in the game, real fans of the franchise will probably stick to the tried and true formula of sneaking their way through the levels.

Like all Splinter Cell games, the audio portion of the game is of exceptional quality. It matches well with the cinematic feel of the game. The graphics of the previous two games were already of top notched quality and yet Gameloft was still able to squeeze out even better looking images from the graphics engine. The animations in the game are just sheer jaw dropping. Sam Fisher looks even sleeker and deadlier than ever. The graphics are just so smooth and gorgeous that you’ll forget that you’re playing the game off a mobile phone. The sounds and graphics are in a class befitting a top notched mobile game title. The production values involved in the game will ensure that you won’t feel like you’re playing a budget title.

The gameplay element is still a blast even though there are only slight changes made in this year’s iteration of Splinter Cell. Still though Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory has inched the bar even higher for competing action-adventure games to follow. It has a lot of stuff to offer for everyone. The stealth elements are intact for those who like to play old school, the increased action elements are a blast for those who love notching up kills on their belts. This is the best Splinter Cell game yet, and it is a definite buy for anybody who loves quality gaming on their mobile phones.

Gameloft introduces the latest Splinter Cell for mobile, Splinter Cell: Double Agent! For those who have not played the previous versions of Splinter Cell or have not heard about it, in Splinter Cell, you play a special agent, sort of like a super James Bond, but with more espionage involved! It is much like the playstation game Metal Gear Solid!

Splinter Cell: Double Agent is a side scrolling action and espionage game, where you must get past several guards on patrol, security cameras, gun emplacements and mine in order to complete your mission. In that aspect, this Splinter Cell: Double Agent is very much like the other Splinter Cell for mobile. However, Double Agent has a mission where you get to swim underwater, evade sharks and underwater mines as well as other divers. While a novelty, that particular level was ridiculously easy. So, is Double Agent a successful follow-up for all the current Splinter Cells? Well, Double Agent seemed to be definitely harder compared to the predecessors, the under water mission not considered. So fans of this type of game genre will certainly love it. The adrenaline pumping action is also definitely improved, and there are times when guards suddenly emerge and you must immediately take evasive action, or risk getting shot at. Gamers will definitely find themselves constantly on their toes as Double Agent takes them on a roller coaster ride of action and espionage. However, like all of the Splinter Cell mobile games, Double Agent also suffers in terms of replayability. Once you’ve played the game in all the difficulty levels, the really isn’t much for you to do, except perhaps, start all over.

Gameloft maintains its standards for producing high standard games, and gamers will not be disappointed in Double Agent. The graphics are as good, if not better that previous Splinter Cells. There certainly seems to be more detail in the game background compared to the old Splinter Cells. The in game sound effects are similar, such as gun shot sounds and explosion effects especially the mines. However the theme and the music of the game have definitely gone through some sweet changes.

All in all, Splinter Cell: Double Agent is certainly a must play game, despite its limited replayability. The game is certainly fun while it lasts, and will definitely get the gamer hooked until the gamer finishes the game at least once. I know I lost some sleep to this game.
